Hey team! 👋
The world's capacity for collaboration is expanding—and so can your agency to influence what's possible.
With that in mind, we’re restarting the Roote Fellowship!
Most excitingly, we have a new leader of the fellowship, Eileen Walz. Eileen is a crazy good fit. She has run AltEd learning spaces in ~GameB, runs Effective Altruism Colorado, and has a deep intuition for pluralism and emotional connection.
We’re lucky to have her for the upcoming fellowship, RF5.
With her at the helm, we’ve also revamped other parts of the fellowship. Our new equation:
Agency = skills + network
1. Skills
We’ve expanded the program from 6 weeks to 10 weeks, while re-focusing each week on agency.
Week 1:
Week 1: Roote-ing In. Connecting with fellow divergent Rooties.
Weeks 2-7 are all How To X:
Week 2: How to Dance with Systems. Eileen highlighted how thinking in systems is different than being in systems (operating at the knife’s edge of uncertainty). We’re now teaching mental models for both.
Week 3: How to Build. It’s one thing to understand the matrix. It’s another thing to shape it.
Week 4: How to Be a Pluralist. Don’t passively accept media binaries. Think from first principles.
Week 5: How to Cultivate Holistic Ethics. Transform your personal and professional life with daily generosity and abundance.
Week 6: How to Be In Network. How to build in public, cold email anyone, and find your people.
Week 7: How to Understand Anything. Use the evolutionary lens to predict how technology and ideas spread.
Weeks 8-10:
Week 8: Mystery Week. 👀
Week 9: Project Showcase. Demo day!
Week 10: Reflecting Forward. Optimistic next steps as a self and a collective.
2. Network
The one resounding piece of feedback we’ve received from RF1-RF4 is how amazing Rooties are, and how they’re crucial to building agency.
With this in mind, we’re doubling down on people.
Running the fellowship with 15 fellows, not just 5. This will enable the fellows to form a self-organizing collective.
Connecting the fellows to amazing mentors, past fellows, and the extended Roote network
So again:
Agency = skills + network
Hope to see you (or a friend!) in the fellowship. Apply here.
Personal note from Eileen below:
I’m Eileen, and I recently joined Roote as the Head of Learning.
I will be facilitating the upcoming Roote Fellowship (RF5). We’ve reimagined the fellowship with three core goals:
Unlock more agency as individuals and a collective
Cultivate a sense of generosity & abundance
Practice thinking in and operating with systems
You’ll collaboratively practice these skills in a cohort of similarly ambitious fellows.
The Fellowship can be done while working full time. It’s also a great fit if you are freelancing, in transition, or have a personal project. Fellows typically spend 5-10 hours per week on a few main activities:
Weekly hour-long group circle
Weekly asynchronous content: building agency with curated podcasts, articles, and videos
Co-working and hangouts with other fellows
Weekly 1:1 with Eileen or Rhys
Personal project development
Have you been waiting for a nudge to get deep into collaboration mode? Do you know someone seeking action and community to level up what’s possible for them?
Apply by May 31st, share with a friend, or reach out if you want to learn more!
P.S. As we continue exploring our relationship to abundance, we’re excited to offer this on a freely sliding scale ($0-$3000) and are committed to money not being a barrier.
Thanks and hope to see you in the Fellowship!
- Eileen
Hope you have a great week!
Warmth, Rhys
